Review: From What I Remember... by Stacey Kramer and Valerie Thomas

Title: From What I Remember...
Author: Stacey Kramer and Valerie Thomas
Published: May 15th 2012
Publisher: Hyperion
Read synopsis: Goodreads

Rating: 4.5 stars

Normally too many POVs in a book would've peeved me out. Three is my limit but apparently I can actually manage more than that. Because this book has five POVs. Yes, FIVE! Yet I seriously freaking adored it! I didn't expect to enjoy this book so much but boy, no matter how many povs it had or how cliched it was it still kicked my ass! This was a fuuuuuun read but had its deep and insightful moments too that definitely made it more wonderful and enjoying!

The characters were the best part of this book! Kylie and Max were both adorable and fun characters. Despite being flawed their characters seems to be so genuine. They were opposite characters (you guys know how I loved that kind of arrangement) and had zero interest to each other but through their forced and unexpected journey they discovered so much more about themselves and realized things they might actually really liked about each other. I love how these two grew and developed throughout the story.

The romantic build up was great. I adore authors who can manage to write a well developed romance even when the story was set for a short period of time. I loved how Kylie and Max's relationship progressed. The attraction between them doesn't feel forced. It was well paced and very genuine. Their chemistry was really good so when the final moment came, it was absolutely swoooooooooning! It was just so sweet, sexy and cute!

Supporting characters like Will, Jake, Lily and Charles were never left on the sides too. They had their own moments that didn't feel unnecessary to the story. Aside from Kylie and Max's pov I really enjoyed Will's! Being inside the head of a gay was just really fun. He was also a very wonderful and caring best friend and I like how much he loved Kylie. Jake's pov (Kylie's younger brother with asperger syndrome) was a touching one and Lily's, although she could be a bit bitchy, I found myself empathizing her situation. The five povs in the story were all so different but what was so good about that was it gave us some level of understanding to these different kinds of people without being one-sided or too judgmental.

With awesome characters, intriguing plot, and sexy and fun romance - all I could do was just to simply adore this book. I would absolutely recommend this especially if you're looking for a fun and sweet read but with great and in depth lessons.

*Thank you Netgalley and Hyperion for providing a copy of this book!

  1. The first few times I read the synopsis of this, I thought it wasn't the sort of thing I'd be interested in. But people seem to be really enjoying it, so I figured I'd give it a chance. Your review definitely makes me more determined to do that. Awesome review, Eunice! :)

  2. You are making me the HAPPIEST girl in the world, knowing that I have a copy of this on the way to my house! *dances around* I knew it would be good because everyone seems to be gushing, but I see your favourites label and that's enough to convince me of its awesome! ;) Plus, the too-many-POVs didn't work for me in Dearly, Departed, but I'm glad to know that they really work here. This sounds like the perfect summer read to bring sweet smiles to my face and make me swoon! x)

    Amazing review, Eunice! <3

  5. Awesome review! I'm glad you enjoyed this one and the five POV's worked. I don't think I've read a book with that many point of views before, but it does work really well when they add different things to the story and are very different personality-wise. sounds like a fun read for the summer.

  6. That many points of view wouldn't usually work for me either but I have a feeling this aspect won't bother me here! The characters all sound like so much fun so I would love to get the story from different perspectives in this instance. An amazing review, Eunice!

I,too, realized that I could handle multiple POVs when it's handled well.
The slow building romance was one of my favorite parts as well, but I didn't like the whole cheating thing. I loved loved Will. He was so fun!
    Great review, Eunice. :)
