Waiting on Wednesday (#20)

"Waiting on Wednesday" is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, that spotlight upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" are..

Title: Earth Girl
Author: Janet Edwards
Expected Publication: August 6th 2012
Publisher: Harper Voyage

2788. Only the handicapped live on Earth. While everyone else portals between worlds, 18-year-old Jarra is among the one in a thousand people born with an immune system that cannot survive on other planets. Sent to Earth at birth to save her life, she has been abandoned by her parents. She can’t travel to other worlds, but she can watch their vids, and she knows all the jokes they make. She’s an ‘ape’, a ‘throwback’, but this is one ape girl who won’t give in.

Jarra invents a fake background for herself – as a normal child of Military parents – and joins a class of norms that is on Earth to excavate the ruins of the old cities. When an ancient skyscraper collapses, burying another research team, Jarra’s role in their rescue puts her in the spotlight. No hiding at back of class now. To make life more complicated, she finds herself falling in love with one of her classmates – a norm from another planet. Somehow, she has to keep the deception going.

A freak solar storm strikes the atmosphere, and the class is ordered to portal off-world for safety – no problem for a real child of military parents, but fatal for Jarra. The storm is so bad that the crews of the orbiting solar arrays have to escape to planet below: the first landing from space in 600 years. And one is on collision course with their shelter.

Title: Sever (The Chemical Garden #3)
Author: Lauren DeStefano
Expected Publication: February 12th 2013
Publisher:Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing

In the first two books of the Chemical Garden trilogy, Wither and Fever, Rhine struggles to escape the mansion and then to navigate the brutal world outside. Now in Sever, the third and final book, Rhine uncovers some shattering truths about the past that her parents never had the chance to tell her and the alarming implications regarding her own genes. She may be the one who can save the human race.

Although I'm not much into sci-fi novels something about Earth Girl is drawing me in. The premise sounds really exciting and very intriguing plus the cover looks really good too. I really hope this one will be great. Sever will be the last and final book of The Chemical Garden trilogy and I am of course excited to find out what will happen next to Rhine and other characters too. I'm not much a fan of the cover this time though.

  4. SEVER!! Oh my gosh, I'm soooooo excited for that book to come out too! After the cliffhanger at the end of Fever, I'm dying to know if Gabriel and Rhine have their happily ever after -- I really, really hope so! Although I agree that I like the other two covers better :') But Earth Girl sounds like such an amazing book! It kind of reminds me a little bit of Unraveling, which I loved, so I'm sure I'll love this too!

Amazing picks for your WOW, Eunice! :) <3

  7. I'm not usually a big sci-fi fan either Eunice, but Earth Girl sounds too good to miss! And of course Sever, I'm really excited for that one too. I adored Wither, and I still need to read book 2, but I'm excited to get caught up. Fantastic picks both!
