Title: Storm (Elementals #1)
Author: Brigid Kemmerer
Publication Date: April 24th 2012

Read synopsis: Goodreads
Rating: 3.75 stars
I would be honest that the main reason that caught my interest to read this book was that I heard that there were quite a number of hot swoon-worthy guys in this one. And then I was surprised to learn that they were not just your typical gorgeous guys but also very cool people who have super natural powers that can control the elements! And so I was sold!
The characters were awesome and very fascinating. Becca Chandler was a very real and compassionate character. She did a poor decision in the past that made her flawed and vulnerable but still she faced and dealt it with her best. I didn't like her right away though but she eventually grew one me as the story went on and as I learned more of her. Chris Merrick on the other hand, I like right away! Haha! Although sometimes his reactions on some things were a bit offending but still he was a very good person, having his POV helps a lot understanding his character. Hunter, the first time I met him I was like, Uh-oh. Not that I find him bad, he was in fact a very kind and caring character but when he showed up I known there'd be love triangle coming and he'd be a threat! Haha! And I just can't seem to like him. Don't hate me alright, I saw all the good in him and I know lots of people loved him but I just...can't. The other Merrick brothers - Michael, Nick and Gabriel were all equally hot and sexy. Gabriel was funny and very fascinating, he's my personal favorite among the brothers.
What I enjoyed the most in this story was discovering each brother's elemental powers. I also had fun learning how it worked and how people get to have those abilities and stuffs. I was also moved by the relationship of the brothers especially after discovering what their family has been through. Growing up without parents who most understand their situation was hard. Brigid Kemmerer did very good job in handling and capturing the conflicts and issues within the relationship of the brothers. As for the love-triangle, worry not because it wasn't the kind that gives you headaches or had you pulling your hair out of your scalp. It was actually pretty good and I did quite enjoy most parts of it.
Storm was very entertaining and fun read, fast paced and action-packed. This book is more than just the boys (even though they were the main reason I read this), there's a lot more in this book that I'm sure you'll enjoy as much as you will enjoy the boys! LOL! Looking forward for the next book, Spark, because it's gonna be Gabriel's story! Yay! :))
If I don't read it soon I might cry! Great review. I will no go cry because my wallet won't allow me to get it for a while. lol.

LOL I have to admit that the reason I was first intrigued about this was because of the guys too! But no worries, I won't come after you with a pitchfork just because you didn't like Hunter (a pile of love-Hunter hypnosis powder maybe?) -- and I feel like EVERYONE seems to be naming Gabriel their favourite! But he was totally hot (haha pun intended!) and definitely deserved it! ;)
ReplyDeleteAmazing honest review, Eunice! <3 And your rating for this made me smile LOL -- 3.75? Totally unheard of and I loved it! x)
LOL, Mimi! "a pile of love-Hunter hypnosis powder" might work but be sure it's very potent. Thanks btw! Ari once told me that my .75 rating is cute. Haha! That's what happens when I'm torn in between 3.5 and 4, when 3.5 is too low and 4 is too high for my taste. Hihi! :)
DeleteI've had high hopes for this one ever since Mimi reviewed it. Four irresistible brothers, both smart AND hot, with different personalities? What else do I need to know?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed this, Eunice, even though it wasn't perfect. I can't wait to read it. :)
Wonderful review.
Thank you, Maja! Can't wait for you to read it too and meet these oh-so-awesome brothers. LOL! :))
DeleteStorm is full of action, a fast-moving plot, lots of descriptive writing, even funny at times, and it has flawed but awesome characters. Late one night Becca Chandler sees Chris Merrick getting a beating by two men in an abandoned parking lot. Becca doesn't put up with it and she makes the decision to come to his aid and unknowingly steps into Chris and his family's crazy world. Chris and his brothers aren't normal teenaged boys; they each have powers and are considered Elementals. The author makes it very clear throughout the novel that with the power to control Earth, Fire, Air and Water comes danger, responsibility and that there are people who know about what Elementals are capable of and they want them dead.
ReplyDeleteStorm has a fairly large cast of characters and each one has a unique personality. As much as liked the brothers and their antics, I loved Becca. She is a strong protagonist that doesn't take anyone's crap and isn't afraid to stand up for what she feels is right. The girl had been through a lot with a jerk named Drew who completely ruined her reputation in the worst kind of way. Becca is a fighter who just continually survives in a tough world, but she is still vulnerable on the inside and cares about people more than most.
